Still Alive?
"Still Alive?" is the working title of my fourth year degree project. Lasting from September 2009 until May 2010, this is the longest project I have embarked upon.
After the success of the technology in my previous project (see Is Someone Coming to Get Me?) I was keen to work again in exploring how a heart rate sensor can be encorporated into interaction design in a non-medical environment.
I am creating a shirt which picks up your heart rate via a chest sensor and displays a visual representation of it on your sleeve. Being able to physically see your heartbeat increases your awareness of it and allows the wearer to become more in tune with their own body. As a result, when the user is becoming stressed or overworked, they are able to identify this and take action to encourage them to relax. User tests so far have yielded very positive feedback.
The project is in its early stages, the following images are of some of my research and prototyping work.
